Okay, I'll try to re-enter the world of half-assed sports blogging now that my first year of coaching high school tennis is over. There are many things about which I could write at this juncture in history, but nothing amazes me more than some of the selections in this year's 1st Round of the NFL Draft. Here are the 32 selections and my corresponding opinion:
Matthew Stafford (Lions): I think they got the pick right, but I hope Stafford makes it out alive.
Jason Smith OT (Rams) The Rams drafted the wrong Smith here.
Tyson Jackson DE (Chiefs) I was big on Jackson last year, but he was unremarkable in his final season at LSU. I think his physical assets make him a solid pick, though.
Aaron Curry OLB(Seahawks) Everyone says he's awesome, so I guess he's awesome????
Mark Sanchez QB-Great pick with Namath-like starpower.
Andre Smith OT (Bengals) Obviously a great pick, even with the titflaps.
Darrius Heyward-Bey WR (Raiders) Crabtree, Nicks and Harvin are far better players.
Eugene Monroe OT (Jaguars) Should be a good pick.
B.J. Raji DT (Packers)Beast mode alert!!!
Michael Crabtree WR 49ers Great Pick! Seriously so!
Aaron Maybin DE Bills I can't tell exactly how I feel about Maybin. He shot up his senior year but seems to be a bit of a risk at the 11 spot.
Knowshon Moreno RB Denver... I don't get how a 4.6 200 lb. rb can get drafted this high. Also, this was a totally unecessary pick
Brian Orakpo DE Redskins Orakpo could be a steal here or a total bust. He definitely has the strength, but he was also underimpressive at times last season. I like the pick, though.
Malcolm Jenkins DB- The Saints continue to construct The Great Wall of Shit that is the secondary.
Brian Cushing OLB Solid pick.
Larry English DE Chargers
Josh Freeman QB Buccaneers This is probably the second worst pick of the first round.
Robert Ayers DE Broncos He's a stretch that high.
Jeremy Maclin WR Eagles Should really help solidify that receiving corps.
Brandon Pettigrew TE Lions The Lions cannot go through the first round without drafting some type of receiver, can they? I don't know why tight ends are first round selections, and Ingram could end up being a better pro.
Alex Mack C Browns
Percy Harvin WR Vikings Great pick. Now, if the Vikes had a qb...
Michael Oher OT Ravens Should be a great addition to Baltimore. Seemingly awesome guy with an awesome story.
Peria Jerry DT Falcons Hell fuck yeah!
Vontae Davis DB Dolphins
Clay Matthews OLB Packers
Donald Brown RB Colts I really like this pick. I think he'll flourish here.
Eric Wood C Bills 86
Hakeem Nicks WR Giants 89 The Giants needs to fill the hole left by Plax, and Nicks may be the man to do it. Amazing in college, to say the least.
Kenny Britt WR Titans Hmmmmm???? I dunno about this one.
Chris Wells RB Cardinals Wells should be a productive NFL back and possibly a star with the right amount of touches.
Evander Hood DT Steelers This guy must be good. The Steelers always draft well. Missouri's defense last year, however, was abysmal.
